Classic action-RPG ‘Gothic Classic’ is bringing its dark fantasy world to iOS in 2026

If you’ve been itching for a hefty dose of old-school role-playing action on the go, THQ Nordic has just delivered some fantastic news. The legendary action-RPG Gothic Classic is officially coming to iOS devices sometime in 2026.

The announcement arrives perfectly in time for a major milestone, as the original genre-defining Gothic just celebrated its massive 25th anniversary on 15 March.

While mobile gamers are finally getting a taste of the action, this isn’t the first time Gothic Classic has gone portable. The port originally debuted on the Nintendo Switch in September 2023, bringing the unforgiving combat, deep faction systems, and rugged atmosphere of the 2001 PC classic to handhelds. It looks like THQ Nordic is eager to continue expanding the game’s reach, with PlayStation and Xbox ports of the classic titles also slated for this year.

For those uninitiated, Gothic drops you into a dark, gritty medieval world where you play as an unnamed prisoner thrown into a brutal penal colony. With its surprisingly deep simulation, reactive NPCs, and challenging combat, it’s long been heralded as a pioneer of the 3D open-world RPG genre. Having all of that intricate world-building right in your pocket is an exciting prospect for fans of deep mobile RPGs.

There’s no word yet on whether an Android version will follow, or on the exact release date and pricing structure for the iOS version. However, THQ Nordic did release a quick teaser trailer to celebrate the iOS announcement, proving that the classic graphics look right at home on a modern smartphone screen.

Between this mobile release and the full, from-the-ground-up Gothic Remake launching on PC and next-gen consoles this June, it’s certainly a good year to be a Gothic fan.
